Don Baker
Don Baker was born in Carlsbad and graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1975. He earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Texas in 1984. He worked in the pharmacy profession for 33 years before retiring. He now tutors nursing students in pharmacology and dosing calculations in addition to tutoring students in math.

Welcome and bienvenido to the Learning Assistance Center (LAC). I am Melissa Dunaway, the Manager of Operations of the tutoring center. My job is to help you find the right tutor for you and assist in setting up appointments. I am also a science tutor. I can help with biology, environmental science, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry. I also prepare students to take the HESI exam to enter the nursing program. In addition, I manage the open anatomy and physiology labs so that those students can have extra time to study bones, models, etc.
A native of northeastern Alabama, I graduated from Jacksonville State University with a B.S. in biology, an M.S. in biology, and an M.S. Ed in teaching secondary science. I taught middle and high school for ten years and community colleges for five years. After moving to Carlsbad, New Mexico, in 2012, I began as an adjunct instructor for the science department at New Mexico State University Carlsbad. I have been both a part-time and full-time science tutor in the LAC.
